Dye is a rare item that can be found while salvaging food items in your backpack, or randomly in containers. It's primary use is to change the color of clothing, which can be done by dragging it onto clothing. To drag it onto clothing, click on your profile page and drag the dye to chosen clothing item in the bottom left box.
You can remove dye from clothing by using a (clean) water bottle of any quality on it.
Harvesting a dye from the salvage list expends 10 thirst.
You can test what a dye looks like on a specific clothing item (as well as check if the clothing can be dyed) by using the fan made dressroom.
