The crawler is a special infected with very slow movement speed, but it has a bigger detection radius and can latch onto you, which reduces your movement speed by almost a halt (-98%) and you will more likely prioritize attacking the crawler than anyone else since he's the nearest onto you.

They're also annoying and troublesome in hordes if the player has no constant source of AOE damage and the crawler can prevent the player from escaping. Using Purity or Combat Knife combo can help greatly in this situation.
Boss
Boss spawning mini crawlers.
The boss version of this infected can spawn 10+ normal crawlers around itself, making it hard to reach the boss, especially since it spawns more crawlers fairly frequently. It can be found in Downtown Santa Rosa.
Using AOE attacks such as the fire and toxic combo is recommended.
Boss spawn locations:
- SP - Graveyard
- In the area between SP - Car Dealership and Sylvia Bluth.
- Fortfield mansion
